Out with the Old

Just letting everyone know that I'm cleaning out my gallery. I have like 6 years worth of old art and I'm going to be changing my art style soon (hopefully for the better). So, I feel like there's nothing better than a fresh start. I just ask for everyone's patience as I clean up things and begin to upload new art ^^

If you're watching my scraps and you receive a notice for every picture I move, I'm very very sorry!

So the first thing I noticed that could use improving is the background color. I know, i know, I just complimented it XD I like that it's blue, but it's too saturated. It's so blue to the point that it starts distracting from the focus of the picture, which is the male figure. Picking a more grayed blue would work a lot better. You could also bring some of that blue into the skin of your figure to unify the picture better. Digital painting can be super hard. I'm still trying to master it too XD I go to Ctrl+paint.com for digital drawing, painting, and even some basics that are very useful. Investing in the more premium tutorials are worth it too.

The anatomy could use improving too. The chest looks pretty good, but the arms look thin in comparison to the rest of his body. If you come back to this one and decide to add to it, it should be fairly easy to add more mass to the arms.

Otherwise, keep at it! Practice makes perfect and I think you're going to just keep getting better and better!

I've been curious, because I have a LOT of old drawings in my gallery dating back about 6 and I'm about ready to make-over my style, so I was thinking of moving old stuff to storage or scraps. Which method of "cleaning up" do you prefer? Have you gone through and cleaned your gallery?
So...I've been thinking a lot lately. I'm an anime artist and I've been doubting myself lately in how to "make it" in the art world as a successful professional. I've always wanted to make a manga and make my living drawing all day. However, I'm becoming more and more aware that anime art isn't as lucrative here in the states as it is in Japan. This hard, cold fact makes me maybe reconsider drawing in such an obvious anime style even though I've been drawing this way for years. I think I would still enjoy drawing if I mixed more of an "American comics" or a little more realism into my work, and I may get more work. I would just like some opinions on this. I'm also considering mixing in some 3d elements into my art since I enjoy modeling and sculpting in 3d. I mean, I probably will keep drawing anime at least every once in a while because I love it, but I'm just having doubts about progressing for a career in the style.

Thoughts on steering more away from anime art?
